The best thing about summer is the chance to leave the house wearing just a dress. Yes, we love any excuse to style up an outfit but slipping into sandals, grabbing a bag and just going is the dream. And when you’re wearing one of the season’s best one shoulder dresses, you’re not going to want to hide it under a jacket, believe us.
One shoulder dresses are totally having a moment. The skin-revealing silhouette taps into the rebirth of sexy dressing we are seeing, now lockdown is (shhhhh) over. While they are ideal if you’re heading Out Out, there are plenty of easy jersey styles that work perfectly as day-wear too.
Slip dresses are a huge fashion trend for summer but also ideal for layering in the winter – these are our favourites to add to your year-round wardrobe
If you’re into the minimal aesthetic, The Line By K has a sinuous oatmilk-coloured version in stretchy ribbed cotton while Re Ona’s black style is similarly pared-back, but this time comes in a heavier stretch viscose. Add a pair of dad sandals and gold hoop earrings and you’re good to go. If you have a bigger budget, Christopher Kane’s printed dress is bold but still chic because of it’s monochrome palette and Molly Goddard’s taffeta one-shoulder style could become your go to party dress for years to come.
On the high street H&M’s draped one-shoulder dress comes in bold olive green (try it with gold accessories for a luxe look) while ARKET’s chocolate brown version is just calling out for a basket to complete your outfit. It’s made from a mix of cotton and lyocell, which is a more sustainable fabric option.
The best summer wedding guest dresses to buy, now that weddings are a thing again
Fans of colour will fall for Self-Portrait’s stretchy neon style or Mango’s sky blue dress. If you’re into pink Norma Kamali’s shocking pink one-shoulder dress would look stunning with emerald green accessories for a colour-clash or reverse the combination with Karen Millen’s green dress and a pop of pink. Coast’s shot of orange would look stunning as a wedding guest dress too.
