Emily Ratajkowski is known for keeping it real when it comes to motherhood (we are very much here for the breastfeeding normalisation). So when trolls came for her on social media, she wasn’t having any of it.
The model became a mum in March this year, welcoming her sweet boy Sylvester Apollo Bear with her husband Sebastian Bear-McClard. Since then, she’s been mum-shamed for a multitude of things, from her breastfeeding pictures to her son’s name to being told she’s “not holding him properly”.

Mum-shaming is nothing new, especially when it comes to celebrities. We’ve seen it unfold with many famous people, including Britney Spears – who Emily Rata referenced when responding to trolls this week.
Taking to Instagram Stories, she wrote: “We are all reflecting back on shaming Britney and calling her a bad mom when she drove with her baby in her lap. We talk about how we have to ‘do better’ as a culture. Meanwhile, my comments are filled with awful remarks about how I don’t deserve to be a mom. Shame on you all.
I don’t care if you hate me or hate celebrity (or just hate women) but it’s incredibly scary to become a parent and no one deserves to be told by strangers that they’re a sh*tty mother.”

Trolling of Emily intensified over a baby-holding fiasco back in June. She posted a series of photos to her Instagram – which have since been deleted – holding her baby by cradling him under one arm. The hateful comments started flying in, saying she wasn’t holding her child properly. She later then shared a drawing of her family created by a fan, and suddenly a cute post was full of nasty comments.

“At least you’re holding the baby in a proper way in a painting for starters,” one person patronisingly wrote.
Cries of “be kind” are lost as quickly as they’re made online. We applaud Emily for speaking up and calling this behaviour out.
