A three-year-old child and a serving police officer have been found dead at an address in Worcestershire, West Mercia Police said.
The force said officers attended an address in Cairndhu Drive in Kidderminster following concerns for the welfare of a man and young child.
A 39-year-old man and a three-year-old child were found dead on arrival.
The man was identified as a serving police officer.
Police have launched an investigation into the deaths, which are currently being treated as unexplained.
The West Midlands ambulance service said they were called to reports of a medical emergency at the property at 9.21am.
Two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended the scene.
“On arrival we discovered two patients, a man and a young child,” the service said.
“Sadly, it quickly became apparent that neither patient could be saved and they were confirmed dead at the scene.”
Assistant Chief Constable Rachel Jones said: “It is with great sadness that we share this news today.
“Whilst the circumstances surrounding the deaths are not fully known, this is clearly a tragic incident.
“Our deepest condolences are with the officer’s family, friends and colleagues.”
The incident occurred in a relatively quiet neighbourhood on the outskirts of Kidderminster, a town 15 miles north of Worcester.

Sky’s North of England correspondent Gerrard Tubb was at the scene at 5.12pm and witnessed forensic officers conducting examinations.
Neighbours spoke of their “shock” at the deaths, with one, who asked not to be named, saying the residents “kept to themselves”.
“They’ve lived there less than a year,” they added, “it’s a family. The news is just awful.”
Tributes were left by members of the public on West Mercia Police’s Facebook page.
Jan Burke said: “How sad not only for the family but the officers who attended the scene, thoughts and prayers for everyone.”
Kirst Munslow said: “Devastating, so many lives being lost too soon in such tragic circumstances…. The world is in such a mess right now and many are suffering horrendously to deal with it alone.
“My heartfelt love and thoughts go out to everyone involved.”
